Hi everyone
Well the Jordan Rally is over and we have scored some valuable points. Fifth place is Scott’s best ever finish in a WRC event so he is fairly chuffed at the moment. The puncture we picked up on SS19 was a shame because we were holding off Henning who was right on our tail on the last day. Still the result is just what we needed after missing out in Sweden earlier in the year.
Jordan was a great event all round and the fact we have been working hard on our fitness helped a lot because the 40km stage on the last day was really tough. The support the country showed to the event was something special and it was great to meet both the Prince and King of Jordan who are big supporters of Rally and a big part of Jordan’s inclusion in the calendar this year.
The party on Sunday night after the event was a top night and it was good to have all the personnel from each team, plus all the drivers, in the one place celebrating another good event. We arrived back to Carlisle via Stobart Air yesterday afternoon and this morning jumped back on the bikes as the sun is shining strong up here in Cumbria.
Over the weekend we setup an email system for you to email your questions into us so we could answer them for you. Here are a couple we picked out and answered.
Jenny from Manchester asked: How long does it take to recce all the stages before the event starts?
Thanks for the question Jenny. Recce these days is on Tuesday and Wednesday before the start of the rally on Thursday and times vary depending on the length of the road sections. Before travelling to the event one of the co-drivers from Ford is nominated to put together a recce schedule which gives us the best logistical route. On an event like Jordan which has very short road sections between stages the recce was very generous and we started at 7am and were done by about 3pm both days. An event like Argentina however, which has much longer road sections was a much more time consuming recce and it was 6am to 6pm on the Wednesday this year. Recce can be a long and draining process but it is a crucial part of success. The crazy thing is now less than 15 years ago Recce was unlimited and could be conducted up to three weeks prior to an event; nowadays it’s two days and only two passes of each stage permitted.
Steve from Bristol asked: Jordan looked very hot don’t you get too hot in a car with no air-conditioning?
Thanks Steve. You’re right it was a hot one in Jordan and the cockpit of the car is even hotter especially when you’re wearing fire proof underwear and triple layered fire retardant race suits! Each car though has a camel-back which is filled with more than enough water for each loop of stages. It’s one of the most important things on a hot rally to keep the fluids up because they keep us cool and keep us hydrated which is key for maintaining concentration through a stage.
