Hi all you Stobart fans out there!
Well Rally Mexico has got off to a warm start this morning after a trouble free shakedown and our first run on the new Pirelli gravel tyre. Scott and I arrived on Sunday and have been acclimatising ourselves for the Rally which begins tomorrow morning. This region of Mexico is at a very high altitude and the rally stages in most part are higher than 2000 metres above sea-level. Because of this we have to do some high-altitude training and together with my trainer Barry we have been on a few runs which have been extremely tough on the lungs. Scott and I also have two new Scott bikes we take with us to go riding when we are on rallies so that has also been a big help in getting used to these conditions.
Our recce went really well but I can’t say the same for Henning and Cato though, they both must have eaten something dodgy and were visiting the porcelain bus on more than a few occasions if you know what I mean! This is my first rally in over a year as a nominated point scoring driver for the Stobart team and I’m really looking forward to it. Sure it’s a bit more pressure being nominated to score for the team but I’m up for the challenge and we did quite well here last year so we’ll see if we can keep the ball rolling in 2008. Well I’m off to Guanajuato now for one of the best ceremonial starts in the championship where over 50,000 people line the streets as we drive through the World Heritage listed town – it’s quite an amazing site indeed.
